Careers in Horsemanship
REC Equestrian Academy is situated in the Western Province between Paarl and Franschhoek on the exclusive Pearl Valley Golf Estate. It is managed by Rosemarie Bartlett who has her International Coaching Qualification & FEI Coaches Level 2 Certificate. Rosemarie is a long standing National Equitation judge and currently the SA National Technical Equitation Committee Chairperson.
The Equestrian Academy offers fulltime and part time EQASA courses, as well livery, riding lessons and trail-rides for both residents and non-residents. The fulltime courses are designed for horse lovers and is aimed at providing a specialized education for those who wish to make a career working with horses. The post-matric course has grown out of a demand by young people for a facility where they can spend time learning about the care and keep of horses. They are given the opportunity to develop their riding skills to the level they are capable of. The part time courses are popular with horse owners who wish to improve their knowledge of horse care and handling of the horse both mounted and dismounted.
The syllabus is designed to equip candidates with the knowledge to sit the EQASA examinations. These examinations were introduced in 1976 and are conducted annually in all the provinces. EQASA qualifications are highly regarded in the Equestrian Community and are recognized internationally.
REC Equestrian Academy is in the process of becoming accredited with the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) and to this end has already qualified its three coaches as Assessors.
Past Student visit from Down Under!
Adolene McMaster, a past REC student from the class of 2011 & 2012, is currently visiting us from her new life in Australia!
Shortly after graduating from REC, Adolene, moved to Canberra in Australia, where she is now working as a Trail Yard Manager and Jillaroo at an equestrian farm.
Her old equine friends were very glad to see her again!
